Entrepreneurial Ideas of the Future Doctor: To a Simple and Better Healthcare System

Aleksandar Kovač, a student at the Faculty of Medicine in Banja Luka, is one of those who decided to think differently, with the desire to try medicine in entrepreneurial waters. Assessing the real needs of the population in the context of medical care, he launched a project of the online platform “e-Clinic”, whose goal was to speed up the process of scheduling medical examinations.

The platform is designed in an application format that will simplify the way patients book appointments and provide them with all relevant information in one place, on the other hand while making it easier for clinics to keep records and track reservations through automated processes. Also, “e-Clinic” provides a unique internal communication system within the medical team of a clinic, as well as an external communication system of the clinic / doctor with patients. In this way, the “e-Clinic” connects patients, medical institutions and doctors in one way through modern technologies and online services.

Available to everyone, “e-Clinic” provides basic information about health facilities, doctors, laboratories and pharmacies. Registered users have a unique opportunity to book free appointments with health institutions that have already joined the e-Clinic platform. By using a simple search, entering keywords, and selecting on an interactive map or reviewing a list, users choose a health facility, doctor, or specialization where they want to schedule a medical examination.

This project will enable me to develop myself and open new opportunities for me by meeting new people and doing a job I love, which further motivates me to be persistent and try to make my business successful.” I have always wanted to create something new that will help people and make their lives easier, and the “e-clinic” is the first step towards that. Knowing that going to the examination causes unnecessary stress to my family, my wish is to visit the doctor faster and easier through modern technologies and online services. ” – Alexander pointed out.

“E-Clinic” is primarily intended for the domestic BiH market, owners of clinics, clinics, surgeries, pharmacies and laboratories. However, since it is an online platform, Aleksandar sees the e-Clinic as a product that will find its place in the regional market and later.

The platform is currently in the final stages of testing and several clinics are already using its interactive calendar. The goal is for the medical staff to get better acquainted with the system and get used to the work, and at the end of this year to enable the citizens of Banja Luka to make reservations through the E-clinic.

For me, the EU4Business project was a turning point in terms of entrepreneurship. The conducted education was more than useful. With a top educator, I learned the key elements needed to keep a business afloat and successful. Financial support was like a wind in the back of a young person like me. It enabled a good part of the project to be realized and that the e-Clinic will soon step into the world of the Internet.“ – added Aleksandar.

Aleksandar Kovač’s business idea was financially and professionally supported through the project “Support for starting STARTUP in the field of IT” which is being implemented within the EU4Business project – for a competitive and innovative domestic economy. To strengthen the BiH economy, EU4Business encourages the development of entrepreneurship, export-oriented sectors, tourism and agriculture, as well as rural development. It is worth 16.1 million euros and is jointly funded by the European Union (15 million euros) and the Federal Republic of Germany (1.1 million euros). The project is being implemented jointly by GIZ, ILO and UNDP, from April 2018 to March 2022.

The project “Support for starting STARTUP in the field of IT” is implemented by the Local Partnership Banja Luka, which consists of the City Development Agency Banja Luka, City of Banja Luka, Innovation Center Banja Luka – ICBL, Employment Service of RS – Banja Luka Branch, Faculty of Electrical Engineering Banja Luka, companies “Blok projekt” doo, “Ad Lab” sp, “Media Lab” doo, Telegroup doo from Banja Luka and the associations “Bit Alliance” and “Club of Business Women of Republika Srpska”.
